# Wackenhut
The Wackenhut Corporation was a major American private security and investigations firm founded in 1954 by George R. Wackenhut, a former FBI agent. It guarded sensitive government facilities (Cape Canaveral, Nevada nuclear test sites), maintained dossiers on Americans suspected of subversive activity, and later moved into private prisons. It enters [[The Octopus]] story through an alleged joint venture on the Cabazon Indian Reservation.
## Background
Wackenhut built deep government ties; its board over the years reportedly included figures such as former FBI Director Clarence Kelley and Frank Carlucci. Publicly traded from 1966 to 2002, it was acquired by Denmark's Group 4 Falck in 2002 and absorbed into G4S (G4S Wackenhut, later G4S Secure Solutions), which Allied Universal acquired in 2021. Its private-corrections subsidiary, created in 1984, was spun off and became the GEO Group, today a major private-prison operator.
## The Cabazon connection
In [[The Octopus]] narrative, an alleged Wackenhut-Cabazon joint venture is the claimed physical site where [[Michael Riconosciuto]] says [[PROMIS]] was modified and weapons such as fuel-air explosives were developed for covert use.
## Epistemic status
Wackenhut's corporate history and its dossier-keeping are documented. The Cabazon joint venture is documented in journalism, but the specific claims that it produced Contra weapons, developed CIA hallucinogens, or hosted the PROMIS modification rest heavily on Riconosciuto and conspiracy sources, not court findings, and should be treated as allegation.
