# Midas Ressources **Midas Ressources** is the Prigozhin-affiliated company that holds the **Ndassima** gold mine, the most valuable asset the [[Wagner Group]] acquired in the [[Central African Republic]]. The US Treasury, sanctioning it on **June 27, 2023**, said it "retains the preferential mining allowance" to Ndassima, whose gold it valued at more than $1 billion, and that Midas and Wagner had blocked CAR government officials from inspecting the mine. ## How the mine changed hands Canada's Axmin received a 25-year permit for Ndassima in 2010, then declared force majeure after rebels seized the site in 2012–2013. Axmin says the government "unlawfully rescinded" its licence and handed it to Midas — Axmin was notified around 2019–2020 (sources differ) — and it has pursued arbitration in Paris. Researcher Enrica Picco has described the transfer as part of the original 2017 deal that brought Wagner to CAR. CSIS satellite analysis showed the site expanding sharply between February 2022 and February 2023. ## What it produces Estimates vary widely and none is official. The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime estimates Ndassima's output at about $100 million a year with no declared production, the gold leaving via Somalia for Dubai. Other estimates of total value run from $1 billion to $2.8 billion. A UN finding cited by Treasury said Midas had worked openly with the UPC rebel group. In July 2025 AP reported at least 11 people shot dead at the Wagner-controlled mine. The US is the only government found to have sanctioned Midas by name; EU and UK listings cover sister companies [[Lobaye Invest]] and [[Diamville]]. ## See Also - [[Central African Republic]] · [[Wagner Group]] · [[Lobaye Invest]] · [[Diamville]] · [[Gold]] · [[Security-for-Minerals]] · [[Africa Corps]]
