# Liberty Vote **Liberty Vote** is the current name of the voting-system manufacturer formerly called [[Dominion Voting Systems]]. [[Scott Leiendecker]], a former Republican elections director for the City of St. Louis, created the company to buy Dominion, announced the purchase on **October 9, 2025**, and renamed it. Leiendecker founded KNOWiNK in 2011, which Votebeat describes as the most widely used electronic poll-book vendor in the country. He told Colorado clerks he is the sole owner, and his representative said the deal was privately financed. The price was not disclosed. ## Why the rename matters "Dominion" is the single most load-bearing proper noun in American [[Election Denialism]]. The company that carried it won a $787.5M defamation settlement from [[Fox News]] in 2023 (see [[Fox-Dominion Settlement]]) and a **$67M** settlement from [[Newsmax]] in August 2025, with $27M paid at once and the rest due by January 2027. It also reportedly settled with [[Rudy Giuliani]] and [[Sidney Powell]] in the weeks before the sale. The name that anchored five years of fraud claims is now gone from the market. The installed base did not change with the name. Jurisdictions in **27 states** used some Dominion equipment, including Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Officials were told there would be no staff changes, contract terminations or product overhauls; Georgia's contract runs to 2029. Counties running Dominion equipment in 2024 are counties running Liberty Vote equipment in 2026. ## The paper-ballot pledge The launch announcement promised to restore confidence through systems built on **hand-marked paper ballots**, echoing Trump's March 2025 election executive order, whose ban on barcode tabulation a federal judge later blocked. Whether the pledge changes anything depends on the customer. Colorado already votes on hand-marked paper. Georgia's statewide system uses Dominion touch screens that print a ballot with a **QR code** the scanner reads. A 2024 Georgia law ordered QR codes off ballots by July 1, 2026, but provided no money. On June 25, 2026 Gov. Brian Kemp signed SB 3EX, moving the deadline to 2028. Georgia therefore votes in November 2026 on the same QR-code system the denial movement attacked in 2020. The brand had already cost the company customers before the sale: Shasta County, California and Rio Grande County, Colorado canceled or rescinded Dominion contracts, and four county clerks told Votebeat they had declined to consider Dominion bids for fear of backlash. A new name is an obvious commercial answer to that problem, though the company has not described the rename that way. ## Field record In the **August 2026 Wisconsin primary**, modem transmission of unofficial results failed in Green and Winnebago counties, both running Liberty Vote equipment. That failure is documented in [[How Election Results Are Transmitted and Reported]]. ## See Also - [[Dominion Voting Systems]] · [[Scott Leiendecker]] - [[How Election Results Are Transmitted and Reported]] · [[How a Voting System Is Certified and Decertified]] - [[Election Systems & Software]] · [[Hart InterCivic]] · [[Ballot Marking Device]] - [[Election Denialism]] · [[Fox-Dominion Settlement]] · [[Brad Raffensperger]]
