# General Atomics **General Atomics** is a San Diego–based privately held defense and technology company, best known through its subsidiary **General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI)** for the MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aircraft that defined U.S. drone warfare over the past two decades. Owned by the Blue family (Neal and Linden Blue), it is one of the incumbent drone primes now competing directly with venture-backed challengers like [[Anduril]] and [[Shield AI]]. In June 2026 GA-ASI was selected alongside [[Anduril]] for the U.S. Air Force's first [[Collaborative Combat Aircraft]] production contracts, with its **FQ-42A** entering production opposite Anduril's **FQ-44A** [[Anduril Fury]].
