# Cursor
**Cursor** is the AI-assisted code editor built by **Anysphere**, the startup that makes it. This page covers both the product and the company: Anysphere's only product of consequence is Cursor, and the company is what [[SpaceX]] bought. The separate Anysphere stub was merged here on 2026-10-03.
## The 2026 deal chain
- **April 21, 2026:** [[xAI]] took an option to acquire Anysphere for $60B, or to pay $10B for joint work. See [[xAI-Anysphere Option Deal]].
- **May 20, 2026:** after xAI was folded into SpaceX, SpaceX announced the acquisition at the same $60B valuation.
- **August 14, 2026:** the all-stock deal closed, issuing about 391 million SpaceX Class A shares. Cursor became a wholly owned subsidiary of the SpaceXAI division. Full record: [[SpaceX-Cursor Acquisition]].
- **August 29, 2026:** [[OpenAI]] said it would wind down Cursor's model access, proposing a November 12 shutoff. OpenAI models were reported at roughly 5% of Cursor traffic, and [[Anthropic]] said it would add compute for Claude in Cursor.
## Why the vault tracks it
Cursor is the application layer of [[Elon Musk]]'s AI stack: a coding tool sitting on Grok, on SpaceX's compute deals, and on Starlink and launch infrastructure. Revenue was reported at roughly $4B annualized by mid-2026 (see [[AI Sector]]).
To fill in: founders and founding year, funding history before the option deal, and how the acquisition changed its model-supplier mix.
