# CME Group **CME Group** runs the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade and the other U.S. futures exchanges that dominate trading in interest rates, stock indexes, commodities and currencies. It is the most established institution regulated by the [[CFTC]]. Since late 2025 it has also supplied the event contracts behind the sportsbooks' prediction-market apps, which puts the country's main futures exchange at the center of the fight over whether a sports bet can be a derivative. ## The sportsbooks' back end - **FanDuel Predicts** launched on December 22, 2025, with CME contracts, in five states. Sports contracts are offered only where online sports betting is illegal. See [[FanDuel]]. - **DraftKings Predictions** launched on CME's exchange in December 2025 (see [[DraftKings]]). - By March 2026 CME had self-certified football parlays (before the Super Bowl), basketball and baseball parlays, and soccer and golf contracts, the products that power both sportsbooks' prediction apps. [[Intercontinental Exchange]], CME's chief rival and owner of the NYSE, took a different route into the category: it bought a stake of about $1.6 billion in [[Polymarket]]. ## The CEO's two positions CEO [[Terrence Duffy]] (stepping down as CEO on March 1, 2027, to become executive chairman; Lynne Fitzpatrick succeeds him) has said things that his exchange's product list contradicts: - **Elections.** Duffy had said political event contracts were not "a good thing." In March 2026 CME self-certified contracts on U.S. elections anyway. - **Sports.** In July 2026 he said: "A lot of these prediction markets on sports are gambling, and I think that that is going to find its way to the Supreme Court," and that small parlays are "susceptible to manipulation." CME had self-certified parlays four months earlier. He distinguishes CME's exchange-listed sports contracts, which he defends, from sportsbook-style products, which he calls gambling. The case he predicted would reach the Supreme Court is [[KalshiEX v. Flaherty]]. ## See also - [[FanDuel]] · [[DraftKings]] · [[Intercontinental Exchange]] · [[Kalshi]] · [[Polymarket]] - [[CFTC]] · [[Prediction Markets]] · [[Sports Betting]] · [[Prediction Markets and Gambling Sector]]
