Utah's 1st District was redrawn for 2026 around Salt Lake County. After the Utah Supreme Court ruled in August 2025 that the legislature's repeal of voter-approved Proposition 4, the state's ban on partisan gerrymandering, was unconstitutional, the legislature passed its own replacement map. In November 2025, Third District Court Judge Dianna Gibson blocked that map and adopted a map submitted by the plaintiffs, which created this Democratic-leaning, Salt Lake City-centered seat. Democrat **[[Ben McAdams]]**, who won a Utah House seat in 2018 and lost it in 2020, ran against Republican **Riley Owen**. ## Result > [!success] Called: Ben McAdams (D) wins, a Democratic pickup > The Associated Press projected on election night, November 3, 2026, that Democrat [[Ben McAdams]] defeated Republican Riley Owen, giving Utah a Democrat in its House delegation for the first time since McAdams left in 2021. McAdams led with about 71 percent in early returns, and Owen conceded (KSL). "In the district that you fought to create, the people of Salt Lake County picked their own representative," McAdams told supporters. Vote totals are unofficial until Utah certifies the result.
