Democratic Rep. **Don Davis** faces Republican **Laurie Buckhout**, whom he beat 49.5 to 47.8 percent in 2024, plus Libertarian Tom Bailey. North Carolina's legislature redrew the map in October 2025: under the new lines, Trump would have carried the district 55.4 to 43.8 percent, roughly 12 points, up from about 3 under the old ones. Newsweek calls it a test of whether an incumbent can survive the new lines and whether Democrats can win back rural Southern voters.
**Ratings:** Cook Political Report rated it a Toss Up; Inside Elections Tilt Democratic; Sabato's Crystal Ball and Decision Desk HQ Lean Democratic (per Ballotpedia).
**Election night:** North Carolina extended voting at five polling places that opened late, so statewide results are held until about 8:15 p.m.
## Result
> [!success] Called: Don Davis (D) wins, a Democratic hold
> Decision Desk HQ projected at 12:16 a.m. on November 4, 2026, and NBC News also projected, that Democratic Rep. [[Don Davis]] defeated Republican [[Laurie Buckhout]] in their rematch, on lines redrawn so that Trump would have carried the district by about 12 points. Buckhout conceded on election night. As of 11:23 p.m. on November 3, with about 97% of precincts reporting, Davis had 49.5% to Buckhout's 47.4%; these totals are unofficial until North Carolina certifies the result.
